One of our favorite companies, Outer Reef Yachts, has decided to open a facility in one of our favorite cities in South America, Cartagena, Columbia. Don’t go all Romancing the Stone or drug cartels on us, Columbia has changed a bunch since that time and is now a place that many US citizens consider for retirement. The climate is great, the country borders both the Caribbean and the Pacific, the food is incredible, and above all else the people are great.
While in Taiwan, we had the opportunity to tour the Tania Yacht Company where the Outer Reef Yachts are built and while some yachts are built for “show,” Outer Reefs are not only gorgeously crafted, they are also built to take their owners just about anywhere in the world they want to go. So why not take delivery in Cartagena and start your cruise where it is absolutely beautiful. Outer Reef Yachts has long been a world leader in the design, construction and sale of high quality long range motor yachts and will now have a premier sales center located in Cartagena de Indias – the Colombian seaport area, and heart of Caribbean commerce and tourism.
Outer Reef’s Latin American sales team, located in this new retail center, will be led by the area’s representative and active community leader, Jaime Borda. The Cartagena area was particularly attractive to Outer Reef as it is a growing center for business, tourism, and the hub of the Caribbean yachting community, as it is close to turnkey service facilities and overall commerce.
Jeff Druek, Outer Reef Yacht’s President and CEO, stated, “We chose to continue our company’s growth in Cartagena, given that in the last five years, the city has become a prominent location in the Latin American market, as a burgeoning commercial and residential real estate center for Central and South Americans. Many of our clients in Latin America see Cartagena as the heart of yachting activity, with magnificent views reachable within minutes of the inlet.”
According to Data Monitor Financial 2014, the Colombian wealth market’s value is forecasted to grow robustly during 2011-2015, second only to the Brazilian market, out of the countries studied in the database. The number of affluent individuals is forecasted to grow at a compounded rate of 10.6% over the same period.
In a statement from Jaime Borda, “Cartagena offers both a strong home base marina for Latin America’s elite yachting community and is a convenient location, offering a myriad of services to a diversified group of yacht owners, including the strong and growing demographic of clients from surrounding Latin American countries including Panama, Brazil, Mexico and Argentina.”
Most recently, the Outer Reef Cartagena and South Florida sales team successfully participated in the 1st annual Panama Boat Show, which took place June 20th – 22nd.
