Two Week Closure of SR 520 West Navigation Channel

by Kurt Hoehne

Crews working for WSDOT on the new West Approach Bridge North (WABN) are preparing to install a drilled shaft east of the temporary work bridge, near the new floating bridge. These work activities will affect navigation around the floating bridge.WABN_Overview_Map_580

In consultation with the U.S. Coast Guard, the temporary west navigation channel will be closed for approximately two weeks from Friday Feb. 12 to Friday Feb. 26. During this closure of the west navigation channel, the east navigational channel will remain open and accessible with the temporarily reduced navigational height of 58 feet. An illustration of the new temporary navigational configuration is attached and is posted on our SR 520 Boater Information Web page.

Crews will work as quickly as possible to complete this work. If they complete the work in less than two weeks, they will reopen the west navigation channel early and we will send another email to inform you of the early opening. When the west navigation channel reopens, it will reopen to the temporarily narrowed configuration that has been in place since October 2015.

Please continue to check the SR 520 Boater Information Web page for the most up-to-date information regarding navigational changes around SR 520 on Lake Washington.
