Ledbetter, Buchan are 1-2 at Star North Americans

by Kurt Hoehne

Seattle sailor and Seattle Yacht Club Sailing Director Brian Ledbetter came away just ahead of fellow sailor (and brother in law) Carl Buchan at the recent Star Class North American Championship at Newport Harbor Yacht Club. The regatta concluded June 9. To many of us, the Star boat will always be a pinnacle of one design racing, with or without the Olympics.-KH   Brian recaps the final day:

“Going into the last day I had 23, Andrew Campbell 25, Carl 28, and Lars Grael and Augie Diaz lurking nearby. We all had throwouts already. Carl won the 1st race to take the lead, and we got a 14 and dropped to tied for 3rd w/ Lars.  We won the last race and were out in front with 2 other boats. Didn’t have a chance to push anyone back, it was just the way it ended, although we didn’t know we had won til we got in as we weren’t totally certain on the finishes in the first race of the final day.”

Congrats to Brian and crew Gregg Morton and Carl and his crew (and son) Jamie Buchan! Results here
