Port Townsend’s Newest Brokerage

by Norris Comer

A new boat brokerage has opened its doors in Port Townsend, Washington. The Port Townsend Boat Company, owned by Rob Sanderson, specializes in both power and sailboats for those with local and world cruising ambitions.

“I’ve been working in the marine industry for over 25 years,” says Sanderson, whose resume includes his first professional jobs in the industry at boatyards on Chesapeake Bay, a sailing instructor in Annapolis, and acting first mate on schooners from Maine to the Caribbean. In 2002, he drove support boats in New Zealand for OracleBMW’s America’s Cup campaign.

“I found Port Townsend in 2004 and feel more at home here than anywhere else I’ve ever lived. My wife and I sailed our Ingrid 38’ to Banderas Bay, Mexico, in 2011 and spent the last six years working in Alaska and Port Townsend driving whale watch boats during the summer and living aboard our sailboat Velella velella on anchor in Mexico in the winter. We now have two little boys and we’re excited to be here year-round in Port Townsend.”

Sanderson is a United State Coast Guard licensed captain and certified sailing and safety instructor. He is also a member of the Port Townsend Marine Trades Association, Jefferson County Chamber of Commerce, and the Northwest Yacht Brokers Association. The Port Townsend Boat Company also offers private instruction, passage assistance, and delivery support to clients.
