Still Time for Whidbey Island Race Week

by Kurt Hoehne

Racers still have time to enter Whidbey Island Race Week, according to Schelleen Rathkopf. Under new management, it’s an exciting time for Race Week veterans and newcomers.

Several one-design fleets are turning out in force. Seven F18s and 14 (!) Kona Windsurfers will be on the starting line in the small boat regatta on Saturday-Sunday (July 18-19). For the big boats, which are slated to sail on July 20-24, an impressive 10 J/105s have signed up, along with 11 Melges 24s and five Farr 30s. One more Farr and they have their own start!

Along with several other changes, this year features a Kids Camp where kids are kept busy all day, including sailing lessons, while mom and dad can race.

Stop by the Northwest Yachting booth while you’re there! Sail fast and have fun.
