Swiftsure

by Kurt Hoehne

It’s not looking promising for a fast ride in tomorrow’s Swiftsure. nwyachting.com’s weather guru Bruce Hedrick gave the grim news earlier tonight. The flood at Race Rocks starts shortly after 1100, and even though the start has been moved an hour earlier, that flood door may shut on much of the fleet. The banter on the dock was all about whether to head to the American side or play the Canadian side and wait for the sea breeze to develop in the afternoon before heading across. sticker

17 boats are headed out to the Swiftsure Bank with Icon, Neptune’s Car and Rage in the hunt for first to finish. In the “Unlimited” class in the medium distance race to Cape Flattery, the 1D 48s Flash and Glory will likely have a nice dual, along with the Kernan 44 Wasabi. Of course, there are rivalries scattered throughout the 190-boat fleet and on all courses.

Bruce is on the J/35 Tachyon and I’ll be on the J/145 Double Take. We’ll get a race review up on this site sometime soon after the finish.
