Seattle area sailor Derick Vranizan is having a great year of Laser sailing, which is a good sign as things take shape for the 2016 Olympic Games. Vranizan has followed up his Canadian Nationals win with a near-win at the US Nationals in San Francisco this past weekend. We’re hoping to speak to him to get you the full story, but it seems from studying the results that he was leading going into the last couple races and that the three contenders (Vranizan, Rob Crane and Erik Bowers) must have had quite a duel in the last race as all were deep in the fleet. Vranizan ended up winning a tiebreaker for third, having won two of the 11 races outright.

In the Radial Fleet, which was open to both men and women, Hanne Weaver finished 35th. That too was a remarkable finish in a fleet dominated by men in the windy Bay conditions.
