For those who know Grand Banks Yachts, this 2008 Aleutian may defy a few expectations. About a foot longer than the standard versions of the series, the Kodiak has a unique interior layout, with three enlarged and updated lower staterooms, two doors to access the side decks from the pilothouse, and a greatly expanded aft deck, providing ample room for entertaining. With its nearly 20’ beam, Kodiak makes excellent use of space for interior furnishings.

Aside from being spacious, the covered aft deck is prepared for cooler weather, with a transparent, removable enclosure to protect guests from the elements. The deck includes a lacquered, folding teak table opposite cushioned bench seating aft. A curved, molded portside staircase leads to the upper deck while a sliding door opens to a large salon space, filled with storage cabinets, a wet bar, and luxurious upholstered furniture—sofa, coffee table, four chairs—that are all moveable for easy rearrangement, to meet various social interaction needs.

Four steps up from the salon is the galley and pilothouse area, with U-shaped granite countertops to port, which provides an open view to the helm and forward windows. Equipped with a Miele dishwasher, convection microwave, and four-burner cooktop, along with teak and holly sole flooring, the galley sits diagonally aft from a wraparound Ultra leather settee and dinette table. Opposite the seating area is the helm, with two Stidd helm chairs, a teak and stainless-steel ship’s wheel, Garmin electronics, Simrad AP 25 autopilot, and Twin Disc EC300 engine controls, along with controls for the Naiad hydraulic bow and stern thrusters.

Doors on both sides of the pilothouse open to covered, walk-around side decks with easy access from stern to bow, which features two built-in benches for sunbathing. Up top, the bright and airy flybridge has similar helm controls forward of a spacious U-shaped couch and two polished wooden grid tables. Aft of the fully enclosable flybridge, the upper deck includes an outdoor sink, grill, and refrigerator, plus an Airtex hydraulic davit and a 13’ center-console Novurania 400DL RIB tender with a Mercury 50-hp outboard.

Down below, the athwartship master stateroom includes an en suite head with separate shower, an island king-sized berth, and an audio/visual entertainment center. The forward VIP stateroom shares a portside day head and an en suite shower. A third guest stateroom features single bunkbeds and a side teak desk so the space can double as an office when needed. All staterooms feature rich teak paneling and fine joinery.

Crew quarters with two bunks and a separate head are located aft near the engine room, which features twin Caterpillar C-15 diesels, each with about 4,000 hours of use. The powertrain produces a combined 1,700 hp, giving the Kodiak a comfortable cruising speed of between 8 and 16 knots, with a top speed of nearly 20 knots.
