520 Bridge Opening Day Reminders

by Editor

From Stacey Howery, Washington State Department of Transportation

With activities for the Opening Day of Boating Season beginning tomorrow, I wanted to take this opportunity to share important safety information to keep in mind if you’re attending the festivities. Attached you will find a map that shows the construction areas to avoid near Opening Day activities on Lake Washington. Please note the restricted parking access that you may have used previously when attending Opening Day. These parking areas are now construction staging areas and are not publicly accessible.

East navigation channel

Since mid-February the east navigation channel has been periodically blocked for critical construction activities. The last planned blockage of the east navigation channel was yesterday from 5 a.m. to 6 p.m. During this time, marine vessels shorter than 45 feet tall could continue to navigate through the west navigation channel.

Beginning today, April 30, the east navigation channel will be open to boaters with no additional temporary channel blockages scheduled. As noted previously, the east navigation channel is currently open with a restricted navigational height clearance of up to 58 feet tall.

We will continue to update via the SR 520 Boater Information Web page to provide you with the most up-to-date information regarding navigational changes around SR 520 on Lake Washington. If you have any questions on Opening Day about navigating around construction, please call our 24-hour hotline – (206) 708-4657.

We thank you for your patience and flexibility during construction. Please let me know if you have questions.
