Among the many yachts making their West Coast debuts at the 2018 Seattle Boat Show are a fleet of Bavaria models, including the Virtess 420 Fly (that we previewed in our March 2017 issue), Sport 450, and Sport 400. These German-made luxury sport yachts have many popular design features, including notably generous accommodations for their sizes. The Bavaria Sport 400 (S40), is a modern-styled motor yacht that should be right at home island hopping here in the Pacific Northwest or turning heads on Lake Union.

The exterior is very fun-in-the-sun oriented, complete with large swimstep off the stern, seating, and a table that eats up most of the cockpit, and a large open foredeck with a padded sun bed. The S40 comes in four very different deck layouts: Open, ST, HT, and Coupe. Perhaps the biggest difference in these layouts is the cabin, for the Open version removes the cover of the cabin completely for a large ski boat-like experience at the helm, while the others retain, and even expand, the cabin’s prominence aboard.

One can even get a S40 with an almost completely glass cabin with retractable hardtop, offering the airiness of the Open without sacrificing the protection of a proper cabin. All the layouts offer four berths below for extended cruising.

With the abundance of layouts, there is probably an S40 that will resonate with would-be owners. If you want to see one in person, check out local dealer JK3 Yacht Sales’ booth at the upcoming Seattle Boat Show.
