Cocktail of the Month: Forbidden Apple

by Norris Comer

Forbidden AppleSeptember in the Pacific Northwest is a month with one foot in the summer and the other in the fall. After all, the Autumn Equinox, the official start of fall, is Friday, September 22 this year. To salute the passing summer season and celebrate the changing color of the leaves, we offer the recipe for the Forbidden Apple cocktail. This drink combines the summer-orange flavor of Grand Marnier with the autumn-apple appeal of Calvados apple brandy. The bubbles, like always, are just for fun!

Make it:

  • 1 oz. Calvados (in a pinch, you may get away with a splash of brandy and apple juice/cider instead)
  • 1/2 oz. Grand Marnier
  • Dash of bitters (Angostura recommended)
  • 4 oz. Champagne
  • 1 twist orange peel (garnish)

Directions: Add Calvados, Grand Marnier, and dash of bitters to a shaker with ice. Strain into drinking glass (Champagne flute recommended) and fill with Champagne and twist of orange peel as garnish.
