The Torqueedo booth.

The Torqueedo booth.

Much of the power plant section filled with the usual players whom you will all see at the Seattle Boat show. But because gas is so expensive here Torqueedo had a major booth showing off electric drives more developed than just the trolling motor they have been known for up to now.  Since most of France’s electric grid is nuclear powered, this is represented as “green propulsion” in France.  Notice that not only is there a full sized outboard here, but there is also an “inboard” shaft drive.

On the subject of green power, a group advertising themselves as the world’s first hydrogen-powered motorboat was showing off their little water-taxi runabouts.

And at the price points being delivered this all is pretty amazing technology. So get ready for the Seattle Boat Show!  I suspect its going to be quite interesting. Soon I will followup with my review of  the sailing part of the boat show.

A “spinoff” of the French Government funded Mission Hydrogene http://www.mh2.fr/en/projects The NavHyBus project is still in its infancy. Fuel is still being made by cracking hydrocarbons so it is not exactly “green” but it does show where some of this technology might go.
